A Mini Guide on JEE-Main

Joint Entrance Examination, or JEE-Main, is an annual entrance test conducted all over India for admissions in the fields of engineering and architecture. Formerly known as AIEEE, it is the most anticipated tests in India and is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA).

Exam Structure and Pattern of JEE-Main

Earlier the tests for B.E/B. Tech and B.Arch and B.Planning used to be held as 2 separate exams once every year. However, from Jan 2020 onwards, this old pattern will be discarded, and the revamped exam pattern will come into effect. B. Arch and B.Plan will also have separate papers designed as per their respective syllabus. These three papers will now be held twice every year, as Phase I and Phase II. All exams will be conducted in online mode only.

Aspirants of JEE-Main will have to take a 3-hour long test, where their aptitude in the fields of Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Drawing, and Planning will be judged. While most of the problems are multiple-choice questions, there are some numerical based problems in the new pattern as well. The number of questions and their total marks vary as per the subject was chosen. B.E/B. Tech students need to attempt 75 questions that total to 300 marks. Meanwhile, B.Arch and B.Plan aspirants need to attempt 77 and 100 questions respectively, which total to 400 marks.

Marking scheme depends upon the section of the paper that question lies. For each correct answer, the candidate will be awarded 4 marks. But for each incorrect answer, 1 mark will be deducted.

There is no age limit to appear for the entrance test of JEE-Main. However, you need to satisfy all the terms strictly mentioned in the eligibility criteria. The number of attempts for this exam is limited to six tries in three consecutive years.
